During Obama’s Presidency, I immediately fell in love with (former) First Lady, Michelle Obama. She is philanthropic, intelligent, and caring for the US citizens. By the time her memoir is published, I immediately went for it. I wanted to learn more about Michelle’s lifestyle before and during her role as the first African-American First Lady of the United States.

There were so many things that Michelle has done in her life prior to becoming the loving wife of Barack Obama and the mother of Malia and Sasha. First off, things were a little difficult for her because she lived through segregation and prejudices against the minorities during her childhood. However, being Michelle, she was able to fight through them.

I also learned that she wanted to do everything during her childhood, like singing and playing the piano. I find that relatable because I literally wanted to do everything and try out everything I see that already interests me. Michelle also has a brother, Craig, whom she’s really close to. I have two brothers whom I bond with whenever we’re together. You can say that Michelle and I are alike.

Sadly, I found out that Michelle’s father was diagnosed with MS and she spent most of her time taking care of him. She lived through the rough life with her ill father and dealing with racial segregation.

Michelle’s education is phenomenal. She happened to be an honor student in her schools, which was rare for the African-American community at her time. When she made it to college, Michelle talked about how she met her first relationships before she met Obama. I find that her relationship with Barack was really romantic. On their date, Barack proposed to Michelle by ordering a fancy dessert with the engagement ring inside and when the waiter lifted the lid to show her, Michelle was in tears and joy when Barack asked her to marry her. <3

It was beautiful and unique.

Tragically, about a year and a half before their wedding, Michelle’s father passed away from complications of MS. Even though her father wasn’t around on the day she got married, Michelle had Craig to give her away instead. When I learned that her brother gave her away, Michelle made me feel confident about my future if I ever got married. My biggest wish is to have my father give me away, but I have an irrational fear of losing him before the day I get married. I suddenly came up with a backup plan: if my Daddy can’t make it, then I want both of my brothers, Stanley and Joey, to give me away. <3

At her college years, Michelle was studying law to become a lawyer. Somehow, it didn’t feel right for her. Then, everything changed when Barack signs up to become a politician. Michelle ended up supporting him during his new career as a politician and a senator.

Michelle’s life changed when she first became pregnant with Malia and then Sasha, all a while Barack was running his role as a senator. Suddenly, Barack decided to take his career to the next level–and run for Presidency despite being African-American. Michelle was doubtful at first, albeit she continued to support her husband as he paves his way to becoming the first African-American President of the United States.

At the end of the election, the Obama’s dreams came true when Barack has won. Michelle began to start her role as not only the loving and supporting wife and mother, but also the very first African-American First Lady in history. She realized that her life has altered when she went from a law student to the well-known woman she is now.

The rest of her memoir speaks to the audience about what Michelle has done as the First Lady, like philanthropy and humanitarian work, to help out other American citizens. Everything else is history.

Now that I read her amazing memoir, Michelle Obama–with her amazing writing–has taught us that we can overcome anything and if we remain tenacious, we can accomplish our goals. That’s what Michelle has been doing, which led to her notable success.

Despite that she is no longer the First Lady now that Trump has taken office, Michelle Obama will remain the most notable to me. Someday, if I ever meet her in person, I would tell her that I admire everything she has done towards her success.
