I was born on November 25, 1993, on a Thursday, and exactly on Thanksgiving Day. This is why I take day offs on Thursdays; this particular day of the week is considered my Self-Care Day. This is also why Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because depending on what day my birthday lies on, I get to celebrate both my birthday and Thanksgiving on the same day!
I honestly don’t remember much, though I recalled that I was so close to being a few months premature. While my mom was expecting me, I was so close to being premature. At 6 months, I wanted to come out to the world right away because the womb was making me claustrophobic, which is one of my irrational fears that I’m still combating, and I was so eager to escape to the real world to experience everything around me. However, I knew instantly that I was not ready yet, so I stayed in my mom’s womb for a few more months. Suddenly, I was born on Thanksgiving 1993!
As I continue to grow, I learned certain things that will remain fossilized within my tiny, yet growing mind.
I recalled that Bill Clinton was President of the United States that time.
I was a toddler when singer-icon, Selena, was assassinated, which made headlines all over the world.
Kids and teens were idolizing The Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, and even Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
There were tiny, digital, key-chain pets called Tamagotchis that became a fad before they discontinued.
There were a myriad of popular things in the 90s that I couldn’t list them all, though they still bring me nostalgia from my childhood whenever I look them up or reminisce about them. That is something that I would love to relive and to take myself back to the past. Despite that they no longer exist in this generation, I will always think about them as if they are museum artifacts, and that is something I would like to lecture the Gen Alphas about if I ever recalled them from memory to memory.
