Focusing on the Future

Daily writing prompt
Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?

I spend more time thinking about the future rather than the past. The past is something that I don’t want to go back to, so I’ve been focusing on the future instead.

Every day, I think about what would happen in the future. I wonder what would the world be like if Trump got impeached during his presidency or what would the United States be like if we ever have our first woman President. I’ve been hoping for that ever since Hillary Clinton ran for presidency, and, unfortunately, she lost. I was excited as I was hoping for Kamala Harris to win the election, and, sadly, that never happened either. So, my chances of having our first woman President of the United States went hopeless and I suddenly gave up on that.

Aside from politics, in which I want no association with at this time unless if Trump got impeached, I’ve been focusing on my own future.

Ever since I received a Bachelor’s degree in English, I have been hoping for a better future for myself. I’ve been seeing myself as a famous bestselling author, so I worked hard on my books and other writing projects. At first, I was confident about my published works about certain societal issues that I’ve been heavily focused on because I’d thought that my novels would help influence my readers into seeing how the society is currently is and what they can do to prevent malignant and tragic events from happening. That’s what I wanted my audience to see whenever they read my books; I wanted them to see that these certain types of societal issues are still happening around the world today and that we should prevent more of that from happening again in the future. I also wanted to spread awareness with personal experiences I’ve went through, and I want my audience to see that as well. Hopefully, I may have readers who went through similar personal experiences as me, so that I can know that I’m not the only one who went through victimization, self-injury, eating disorders, depression, and mental health issues. I just wanted to share my own experiences that others can relate to. I’ve been hoping that this type of writing theme would help me become a bestselling author… some day in the future, and I’ve been thinking about this ever since I published my very first novel.

So, there you go. I’ve been thinking more about the future rather than the past. I’ve been full of hope for what would be in store for me, and I couldn’t help but to feel excited about my hopes and dreams coming to life. Unfortunately, most of them never happened, and, very reluctantly, I cannot always get what I want. These kinds of things take time in order to get what I want and I cannot wish for it instantly. I learned to be patient about my ongoing future.

For now, I have to focus on the present and turn that present into the past… and finally, turn my future into the present and the cycle will continue.
