Fighter: My Super Power

Daily writing prompt
What super power do you wish you had and why?

If I could have any super power, I’d be a fighter.

Throughout my years since childhood, I’ve dealt with a myriad of ordeals that are considered too traumatic for me to describe in one article. Suffice to say, I’ve dealt with being abused and bullied, in which they became the sources of my mental health issues, such as borderline personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and bipolar disorder.

After all those years of being in therapy and taking my prescriptions to alleviate my mental illnesses, I became the fighter I am today. I considered myself as the mental type of fighter rather than the physical type due to failing martial arts and being a pacifist. Albeit, to me, being a Mental Fighter works just as well as any type of Physical Fighter.

I don’t need to wear boxing gloves or sports tape to become a fighter; all I need is my ability to combat my inner struggles with self-care and standing up for myself. That is the only type of super power I need to become a fighter.

Ever since then, I fought for myself against my mental illnesses and self-injury.

Just recently, I created a new playlist in my Apple Music:

Fighter Mix by Nix Cheng

  • “Whataya Want From Me” by Adam Lambert
  • “Keep Your Head Up” by Andy Grammer
  • “Head Above Water” by Avril Lavigne
  • “Gold” by Britt Nicole
  • “That’s The Way It Is” by Celine Dion
  • “Bad Day” by Daniel Powter
  • “Not Afraid” by Eminem
  • “I Think I’m Paranoid” by Garbage
  • “Unwell” by MatchBox Twenty
  • “The Wolf You Feed” by Alissa White-Gluz
  • “Breaking Down” by I Prevail
  • “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift
  • “Life Is A Highway” by Rascal Flatts
  • “This Is My Time” by Raven-Symone
  • “I Am Machine” by Three Days Grace
  • “Treat Myself” by Victoria Justice
  • “All Star” by Smash Mouth
  • “Imperfection” by Evanescence
  • “Eye Of The Tiger” by Survivor
  • “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten

Whenever I listen to my Fighter Mix playlist, I became stronger than I was before. Listening to this mix helps bring me the inner fighter in me whenever I think about something negative or going through personal issues that can impact my mental wellbeing. Music truly helps me with my mental health and it is also the perfect escapism from my dark past. It’s the perfect type of self-care for me.

To sum everything up, being a Fighter would be my ideal super power. It is the mental strength I favored, not the physical strength.

To this day, I consider myself as the Fighter I am today.

Nothing will stand in my way, no matter how enormous or minuscule, benign or malignant.

The Fighter Song by Nix Cheng

Shattered glass is everywhere,

Eggshells are here and there,

Every shard and crack tells a sad tale.

Silent screams are spread all around,

Waterfalls and raindrops are falling down,

Will I pass the test or will I fail?

The dark clouds are covering the sky,

I guess nobody will see me try

To finally come out of the closed door.

All these years I am concealed

With scars that show and never healed,

Do I have the strength to reveal more?

All these years, I was pressured a lot,

I was forced to be somebody I am not,

There is no girl like me who is perfect.

Life is cruel and complicated,

I was badly mistreated and hated,

Am I really strong and truly worth it?

For so long, I’m stepping out of the door,

I know now that I can hold it no more,

I am no longer trapped by my many fears.

I was haunted by my own nightmares,

I was lost in a black void of nowhere,

Will they see me cry any more tears?

Finally now, I am outside of the shadows,

It’s time to leave that empty dark hollow,

Time to say goodbye to that horrified past.

Looks like there will be no more tears,

There will be no more haunted fears,

How long will this even last?

Now I’m ready to show the big world

How much I can do for a small girl,

Something that no one will ever forget.

I won’t be scared, I won’t be shy,

I just want to spread my wings and fly,

Will there be any regrets?

I will fly away without a trace,

I don’t need a mask to cover my face,

There won’t be any more rules for me.

I’ll take my time to run a thousand miles,

So everyone can see me smile,

How long will I be free?

I promise not to fall back down,

You’ll never see my tears and frown,

Time for me to be brave and stay strong.

No more hiding, no more despair,

No more bad dreams, no more nightmares,

Am I right? Or am I wrong?

This is where I stay,

I’m going nowhere, I won’t fly away,

There is no turning back.

Here, I will shine underneath the light,

The dark will be gone soon; it will be alright,

The past will be gone, fading fast.

I can be who I really am whenever I want,

I’ll be carefree, wild and nonchalant,

I’ll even loosen up with no worries.

All I know is that I’m still alive,

I have a lot of time to survive,

I’ll even find my own glory.
