What’s a book you think deserves a sequel?
The book that I think deserves a sequel would have to be Matilda by Roald Dahl.
I’ve read Matilda a million times throughout elementary school and I’ve even seen the movie adaptation infinitely growing up. That’s how much I love Matilda.
To sum everything up, Matilda Wormwood is an avid and precocious bibliophile at only six years old. She grew up with a swindling father who is a con artist selling used cars, a narcissistic mother who has a gambling problem (in this case, bingo), and a spoiled older brother who abhorrently torments Matilda. Matilda grew up in a dysfunctional family and household, in which she sought reading books as a form of escapism for herself.
On Matilda’s first day of school, Matilda grew fond of her teacher, Miss Honey, as well as impressing Miss Honey with her precocious autodidacticism. Then, there was the abusive Miss Trunchbull, the principal of her school, to worry about.
The ending of Matilda truly warmed my heart when Miss Honey decided to adopt Matilda as the latter’s family moved out of the country to escape the federal bureau, hence Matilda found a new, proper family with Miss Honey as her adopted mother.
The reasoning behind why I believe Matilda deserved a sequel is because I wanted to know more about Matilda’s new life in the aftermath as she grows older into adolescence.
I predict that:
Matilda matriculated herself to Kindle books now that technology is becoming more advanced here in this generation.
Miss Honey may have been married and that Matilda may have a father–or a second mother–she always wanted.
Matilda heads to college at age fourteen due to her superior intelligence and autodidacticism.
Best of all…
Matilda becoming a surreptitious vigilante as she uses her telekinetic powers for good reasons.
All of that, I hope for Matilda’s upcoming future after the first book and movie adaptation.
I also hope for Matilda’s eventual career path. She could be a librarian, an English professor, an all-time successful bestselling writer/author, or even better… a mom herself.
Matilda is my all-time childhood favorite classic. Should Roald Dahl’s granddaughter, Chloe Dahl, plan to ever follow her grandfather’s footsteps, I hope she would potentially write the sequel to Matilda with everything I hope for. It would mean a lot to me to ever get the chance to know more about the aftermath of Matilda’s new subsequent life.
Henceforth, I believe that Matilda, both book and film, deserves a sequel.
