I once had a conversation with the most amazing person ever. Here is what she told me growing up.
- She suffered from depression.
- She didn’t get along with anyone; she grew up as a loner.
- She fell victim to the wrong type of people.
- She was pressured by the wrong type of crowd.
- Her sisters are outgoing, but she is not.
- She usually would stay home and read while her brothers and sisters hang out with their own friends.
- She was extremely quiet in school, along with her struggles to learn English.
- She didn’t find love until in her 20’s.
- She didn’t have much friends because she never liked anyone around her, not even her previous and former co-workers.
- Even if she was extremely depressed, she survived and she refused to end her life; in fact, she’s still alive today and has changed throughout her years of struggles.
- She’s a fighter and is no longer a victim.
She is exactly like me, but she is NOT me.
She is…
My Mom.
What does this prove: that depression can happen from generation to generation, but we can still fight it.
