My most memorable road trip would have to be when I was seven years old and my family and I went to Canada.
Throughout the long drive to Canada, my brother and I would have snacks at the back seat of my dad’s car and Mom would scold us not to eat too much junk food during the drive, otherwise, we would’ve gotten sick from eating too much and we didn’t want any of that to happen. Humorously, my brother and I surreptitiously ate small candies without letting Mom and Dad know, and nothing happened to us.
While my dad was driving, I was eager about getting there. I would constantly say “Are we there yet?” like all the other kids do. Either Mom or Dad would answer, “Almost there,” and almost there wasn’t enough for me. Suddenly, after getting tired from all that waiting to get to Canada, I fell asleep during the car ride, hoping that we would make it there faster. It sort of worked, because when I woke up, we stopped by at a nearby Day Inn motel in Upstate to rest for the day and then resume the drive on the next. I remained eager throughout the stay at that motel.
Finally, when we got to Canada, I was elated. I saw everything before me, from themed-restaurants to arcades, I felt as if I never wanted to go home. Unfortunately, for me, we were only staying there for about a week.
The whole purpose of going to Canada was this momentous experience that I can never forget. That is, we were going to see Niagara Falls.
To make the best of it, we saw the largest waterfall in Canada by boat and I even recalled that everyone on that boat had to wear blue raincoats. Seeing Niagara Falls in person, and that close, was the best tourist experience I’ve ever had. I never wanted to erase that memory. I wanted to share this story to the whole world, especially to my baby nieces and nephews.
After seeing Niagara Falls, my family and I did everything we could during our remaining stay in Canada. There was an arcade nearby our hotel and my parents would take my brother and I there almost every day. My brother and I played nearly every game at that arcade, in which we won many tickets to win prizes. My brother won a rattlesnake plush with a working rattle tail and I won a pink unicorn plush. It was truly the most joyous occasion we’ve had. We took our prizes home and we slept with them every night.
Out of all the childhood vacations I went, taking a road trip to Canada to see Niagara Falls was the most momentous for me. I experienced a lot of Canadian culture, themed-restaurants, and arcades, all of which brought me excitement. I knew what it truly meant to be a child full of inquisitiveness and elation, and this was one of the memories from my past that I never want to forget.
If I could turn back time, I would go back to when I was seven years old and relive every joyous occasion I experienced. Reminiscing this road trip to Canada brought back my innocence and I never want to lose it.
