Feeling Loved

Daily writing prompt
Can you share a positive example of where you’ve felt loved?

One positive example of where I’ve felt loved what in college somewhere in 2016.

That was when I first opened my X (formerly Twitter) account. The reason why I decided to join X is because I wanted to share my personal experiences with my mental health issues, mainly borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder. I figured that I could find others who shared the mutual experiences as I did, so that I’d know instantly that I wasn’t alone and not the only one who is both borderline and bipolar.

Then, something heartfelt happened to me in real life.

I was just exiting one of my English courses in college. Suddenly, one of my classmates from that class came up to me. She said, “Hey, are you Nicole from Twitter?”

I said, “Yeah, I am.”

She continued, “I just followed you on Twitter, and I just want to say that I love what you’re doing there. I suffer from borderline personality disorder, too, and I can totally relate to what you’re going through. So, I love how you’re spreading awareness to this mental illness, and I’ve been looking up to you ever since you first join Twitter!”

I was touched by her words. I responded, “Thank you so much! This is something that really means a lot to me and I just wanted to share my experiences.”

She concluded, “You’re welcome! Keep doing what you’re doing! I’m still looking up to you!”

Finally, we departed to our next classes.

After hearing what my classmate said to me about spreading awareness to borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder on X… that was when I felt loved.

It truly spread warmth to my heart when I first heard in person that someone out there has been looking up to me. I wouldn’t be so grandiose about this, albeit I felt truly loved when I have a fan in reality. Hearing this from my classmate made me want to continue to share my personal experiences with mental health issues.

In fact, this classmate influenced me to write my journal, Glass Bones and Paper Skin. That’s when I instantly began writing entries in my purple journal about my mental health issues and how I coped with being borderline and bipolar by doing self-care regimens, seeking help from professionals, and sharing my thoughts about my ordeals. By the time my published journal becomes a bestseller some time in the future, then I’d be elated enough to hear that I am not the only one who suffers from these two mental illnesses and that there would be others out there who share the mutual experiences as I do.

I knew instantaneously that I have what it takes to be a good role model. That way, I can influence others into doing what I do every day to treat my own mental well-being, and that they would treat theirs the same as well.

I can never forget this particular time where I felt loved. I’ll never forget my classmate’s words to me, and because of her, I’m going to keep doing what I love to do, and spread awareness to the mental health community.

I know for sure that I am not the only one and that I am never alone.
