The aspect of my life that is holding me back right now is my intelligence.
I grew up being very studious and always reading a lot of books in school. All this daily reading caused me to be more articulate whenever I communicate with my peers. My grandiloquence cost me multiple friendships.
Every time I speak loquaciously to my classmates, they never understood me. Most people my age are not articulate enough for me since they always use word-fillers, such as “like” and “literally” every few words, which became my biggest pet peeve when it comes to socializing in this generation. Whenever I hear people say these two words too often, it makes me feel as if they are not smart enough and that they are illiterate because I can tell that they cannot read if they kept using these two annoying terms. I get the feeling as if I am unsurpassed when it comes to intellectual communication. I’d stay away from unintelligent people since I cannot handle hearing “like” and “literally” too much. It’s a nuisance to me.
This is the reason why in college I prefer having intelligent conversations with my professors whenever I want to talk about literature, philosophy, and certain theories that interest me. I feel as if I am more mature than my classmates because of how I disciplined myself and becoming an autodidact when it comes to reading books. With all my veracity, I abhor most of my classmates due to their inferior intellect and their immaturity, so I turned to professors instead to have a tete-a-tete with. That’s just how I am, and it will always be.
So, there you have it. My main aspect in my life is affecting my social skills. Due to my intelligence, I never got along with any of my peers. It provoked me that they are not smart to me, which led me to believe that this unintelligent society is what is massively wrong today. It’s becoming my pet peeve that people cannot read at a college level and be more magniloquent, such as I. This also made me believe that the lack of reading and comprehension is the main cause of high school and college dropouts. That is just unacceptable to me.
My intelligent aspect still holds me back, though it’s the lack of friends that makes me elated enough to be myself. Being alone is just enough for me and I don’t need any real friends to accompany me. All I need are books, cats, and my writing. As long as I have everything that I have affinities with, I will be okay.
And I am okay.
